Headmaster
Our Founder
Prof. Dr. Rathinavel Subramaniam was born on 5th Aug 1912 and belongs to the village of Thirmiachur of Thanjavur District. Dr.R.S completed his schooling in Muthialpet School and finished his Bachelor Degree in Science (Zoology) in 1932 at the Presidency College, Chennai. He joined MBBS at Madras Medical College and after completing did his MD at the same college. He was well trained by the famous physician Dr. Gurusamy Mudaliar. The Royal College of Physicians, London conferred the Fellowship on him.
Dr. Rathinavel Subramaniam was polpularly called as “Dr.R.S” was an astute physician and had an intense intuitive skill of diagnosis. He had an unbelievable knowledge in Medicine. Dr.R.S was a master in all subspecialties of Medicine.. He worked in Royal Brompton's Hospital, in London and was trained by Dr. Tausig. His interest in Cardiology was such that he donated Rs. 2,50,000/ for the present Cardiology Block at Madras Medical College, Chennai.
As a teacher Dr.R.S was simply phenomenal. His teaching was simple but exhaustive. His love for his students was amazing and inspiring every one of them to attain their highest excellence., He chose the students from their aptitude and sent them for higher specialties who later became the experts in their respective fields globally. He has always taught the students that, one should treat the patient's disease and not his designation.
OUR FOUNDER
Prof. Dr. Rathinavel Subramaniam – A Legent
Dr.R.S was promoting education even at the school level by being a Director, Board of Management at Muthialpet school. He was loving art and ran a dance school at Kilpauk. Dr.R.S also ran a Tamil Research organization. Dr.R.S. brought forth the Girls’ school was declared open in the year 1961 by Hon'ble Thiru. K. Kamaraj , the then Chief Minister of TamilNadu. We are one of the first few schools to be upgraded as ‘Higher Secondary School’ in North Chennai in 1978.
Dr.R.S was the Prof. of Medicine from 1951 to 1970 at MMC. During the last three years of his official life, he was the Dean of the prestigious Madras Medical College. He was also a member of the senate and syndicate of the Madras University.
He was a divine personality with unswerving devotion of Lord Nataraja of Chidambaram. He resurrected the Eastern Gopuram of Thillai. He has written a number of books and articles in Tamil
Historical Sketch / School at a Glance
The ceaseless efforts of our Founder President Dr.Rathnavelu Subramaniam, brought forth the Girls’ school and our school was declared open in the year 1961 by Hon'ble Thiru. K. Kamaraj , the then Chief Minister of TamilNadu. We are one of the first few schools to be upgraded as ‘Higher Secondary School’ in North Chennai in 1978.
The Silver Jubilee was celebrated in 1986 with Hon'ble Thiru.R.Venkatraman, the then Vice President of our country in the Chair. The Golden Jubliee was celebrated in a very grand manner in the year 2011 with Padma Bhusan Prof.Dr.N.Rangabashyam, an eminent Gastroenterologist as the Chief Guest.
For Std. I to V the medium of instruction is Tamil and from Std. VI to XII, the medium of instruction is both Tamil and English. The Higher Secondary course consists of Science, Commerce and Vocational groups.
Founder's Day
The Birthday Celebration of our Founder President Dr. Rathnavelu Subramaniam was celebrated every year on 05th August in a very grand manner. On that auspicious days, Thiru.S.R. Raghuvir, Director of our school has provided delicious meal to all the Students and Teachers. Further, Mementoes were given to all the staff of our school.
Infra Structure
Laboratories
The school has well equipped Science and Computer Science Laboratories providing all facilities to our students initiated by our Director Thiru. S.R. Raghuvir always take care for the progress and welfare of the school. All the Laboratories are widely used by the students and their performance in the Higher Secondary Examination is commendable.
Library
Our school has a well-stocked Library comprising about 7100 books for light and extensive reading at all levels of students. Newspapers, Magazines and Journals are also subscribed. Teachers and students make the maximum use of the library for school and inter-school competitions. Our library has adequate books to cater to the needs of all students.

Achievements
we have achieved cent percent results in XII Std. and X Std. Public Examinations for the past eleven years consecutively . In XII Std. Public Examination held in March 2019, the top scorer is Syed Afrin I , XII E and she has secured 539/600 .We have immense pleasure in announcing the fact that 6 Students out of 77 have secured more than 500 marks in the XII Std. Public examination held in March 2019.
In 10th Std. Public examination held in March 2019, our student Thameem Afrin J of X-B has secured 462/500.We have great pleasure in announcing that 4 students have secured above 450/500 and 22 Students have secured above 400/500.
The Academic Council is always taking best efforts in maintaining a healthy Teacher - Student relationship for continuous commendable performance year after year.
The Education Department of Chennai District in association with Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Retired Headmasters’ Association and LIMRA Study Centre (MBBS in Phillipimes) awarded certificate of Merit and appreciation for the Headmaster & top scorers of the school for their determination with sustained effort, preparation with controlled attention and hard work with concentrated energy which led success. An award was given to our Headmaster, Thiru. E. Sundaraj by Dr. S. Kannappan, Director of School Education for producing 100% results in Std. XII and Std. X Public Examinations held in the year 2019.
Jawaharlal Nehru Science, Maths and Environment Exhibition was conducted on 09.10.2018 at the District level, Chennai East. Our School students Asifa Begum S of Std XI B and Sakthi A of XI B got the I place under the topic, “Agriculture and Organic Farming”. In the above exhibition at the VI Std to VIII Std level, Our student Aishwarya B of VIII B got the I place under the topic, “Mathematics Model”.
In the Thirukkural Competition conducted by Maanavar Mandram on 05.10.2018, Our School Students have participated and won many prizes for reciting Thirukkural and the Vallalar poems.
Our School Students participated in the “Kala Utsav” Competition conducted by our District Educational Officer and got many prizes in the Drawing,Music and Dance Competitions.
Our Students Participated and won prizes in “The Madras Ayyappa Seva Sangam” Sloka Parayanam Competiton
Chennai Port Trust observed, “Vigilance Awareness Week” and organized an Essay writing and Poster making Competition. Our student,Bharani Shree B of Std IX C got the Certificate and cash voucher of Rs.1500.
Dr.RSM Girls Higher Secondary School Poor Students Aid Society
This Society was formed in the year 1991 to help the poor girls in their studies, providing special meals and arranging free medical checkup, payment of school fee and exam fee, providing uniforms and supporting for the coaching classes and pursuing for higher studies.
BEST TEACHER AWARD
Best Teacher Award was first instituted in the year 1990 in our school. The Committee headed by our President Thiru O.R.Thangaraj, as Patron and the members of the M.K.S.Thirupurasundari Best Teacher Award Committee, selects the ‘Best Teacher’ every year.
Our Former President, (Late) Thiru M.K.Sambandan,B.Sc., with a view to acknowledge and appreciate the selfless and dedicated services of the teachers had created an Endowment of Rs.30,000/-in the name of his beloved wife Tmt. M. K. S. Thirupurasundari. The interest yield of this amount is used to honor the Best Teacher with a Gold Medal, Silver Mementoes and a Certificate.
MANIOSAI” – SCHOOL ANNUAL MAGAZINE
Releasing the school magazine ‘MANIOSAI’ is a regular feature of the Annual Day Celebration of our school. Our President, Secretary, Directors of Board of Management, Members of the Parent-Teacher Association who take great delight in contributing interesting articles to ‘Maniosai’. Many teachers and students contribute articles, jokes, puzzles and drawings for the magazine bringing out their innate talents which make its chime melodiously.
The Parent Teachers Association
The Parent - Teachers Association was started in 1968. It acts as the backbone for the growth of the school in all aspects. The School celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Parent - Teachers Association in 1993 in a grand manner. With the Co-operation of our parents, we have achieved what we are today.
Teachers producing 100% and above 80% results are awarded incentives and appreciated by the association then and there. The Executive Committee Members headed by the Headmaster as Secretary convenes meetings at regular intervals to discuss the progress of the students and other school activities. Periodical meetings for slow learners of Std. X, XI and XII are being convened for their better performance
Sports
Physical Education is compulsory for all standards in our school. Battery of tests were conducted for all the students at the Pachaiyappa’s Ground to record their stamina and develop themselves along those lines. Our school is a member of the Chennai District Girls’ School Athletic Association and classified under Zone ‘B’. Our students at Junior, Senior and Super Senior levels were trained vigorously to compete in various events at Zonal Sports meet. Our school won the following zonal Tournaments also.
